I was up before the sun to catch my flight from Houston to Santa Rosa, California, and after a pit stop in Dallas finally arrived in Northern California for a few events and some much-needed downtime. My in-laws picked me up and got me to a bed where I pretty much slept for a day before my wife and kid showed up after driving from Los Angeles.
We'd planned a family trip in Grants Pass, OR, and I was going to utilize the some of the time to hit a couple more bookstores, but first I was thrilled to make an appearance at the amazing WORD HORDE EMPORIUM OF THE WEIRD AND FANTASTIC, located in Petaluma, CA, and run by Ross Lockhart, who also happens to run one of the premier horror publishers, Word Horde Publishing.
The event at Word Horde was a total blast, and it was so fun to see folks who had driven HOURS to get some books signed or take a picture or just say hello. Special shoutout here to Barb for gifting me a delicious bottle of bourbon from a local distiller. For a couple hours I meeted and greeted and signed and it was a total blast. Non-stop party!
After my event at Word Horde we all drove up to Grants Pass, but I was only able to relax for a day before I hit the road again, making my way four hours north to Beaverton and the wonderful POWELL'S AT CEDAR HILLS CROSSING. The awesome folks at Powell's treated me so well and did a fantastic job presenting the event, which included a Q&A, reading, and signing. HUGE thanks to author KC JONES for moderating this event with me (pick up his book BLACK TIDE if you haven't already), and a special shoutout to my friend, author TYLER JONES (no relation to KC!) for meeting up for drinks and food both before and after the event. All the folks at Powell's were delightful and it was so much fun to sign books (PS - I left a big stack of signed inventory with them, so if you're in the market for a signed copy give them a shout!).
After drinks and food with KC and Tyler, and lots of chatting about all things writing and publishing, I staggered back to my hotel for a night's sleep before hitting the road again the next morning to Salem, where I was so grateful to do an event at the famous BOOK BIN.
Arriving a bit early, I was able to have lunch with bookstore owner Obadiah Bird and his lovely wife, followed by a tour of the store's incredible rare book room. I also did some shopping while there (how could I not?) before folks showed up for my event.
This one was a bit different because it was the first time I was "solo" for the event, so I introduced the book and talked a bit about the story and how it came about, etc., before doing a reading and taking a few questions from the attendees. And I want to say a special Thank You to reader Joan who has been a long-time supporter and drove 4.5 hours (!) to get to the event, get some stuff signed and grab a selfie or two.
After signing remaining stock I said goodbye to Obadiah and made the three-hour drive back to Grants Pass where I'd finally be able to stop for a few days, enjoy my family and the Rogue River, and recharge the batteries for what was to come:
