(DAMN IT'S HOT!)

I made it to Phoenix via the airplane and the second I stepped into that sweet Arizona air I thought I as going to die on the spot (118 degrees! at 9:30pm!). But I made it into my rental car with the crappy air-conditioning and made my way to one of like seven Hilton Garden Inn hotels here in the area (thankfully the hotel A/C worked better than the broken-down Jetta the rental company gave me).


After a wholesome meal of Wendy's while watching the last 40 minutes of Airplane! I was ready to go for the next day's festivities.

The awesome folks at CHANGING HANDS BOOKSTORES were kind enough to stock some copies of BOYS IN THE VALLEY and I can't tell you how impressed I was with both of their locations. I met up with Quinn at the Tempe location, which is huge, and has so many great used and new books to choose from. After that I busted up to the Phoenix location, which comes equipped with a cafe and bar (!) and a wonderful bookseller named Bee, who was so kind and got me all my books to sign. I stayed for lunch (highly recommend the Moby Dick Sandwich) before heading to my 4pm event at POISONED PEN.

 



I met up with Patrick at the world-famous Poisoned Pen, signed a ton of preorders (thank you!) and then did a live streaming event that included questions from Patrick, a reading, and a lengthy Q&A with the folks who attended (you can see the full video at the Poisoned Pen YouTube channel).



I ended up hanging out at the store for a while, having some champagne and lemon cookies while I shopped for some signed books and hung out with a bunch of the customers, including THE Paul Goblirsch, owner and publisher of Thunderstorm Books! Having worked with Paul on a few projects, I was delighted that he and his daughter were able to make it out.




After the event it was back to the Hilton (silently praying I was going to the correct one) for a cheeseburger, 5 bourbons (they didn't have scotch) and a good night's sleep before my Texas trip!

NASHVILLE!

Parnassus Bookstore Nashville, TN August 15, 2023 Nashville After making the longest drive of the entire tour (a whopping nine hours!), we finally arrived in Nashville to prepare for the big event at Parnassus Books. I was especially excited about this one because I'd be meeting up with friends from Los Angeles who had recently relocated, as well as my buddies Greg Greene and Jeff Terry, who promoted the event tirelessly, with Jeff handling MC duties while also recording the entire event for his incredible YouTube channel, The Jeff Word . We stayed the night with our transplanted friends and their lovely kids, then experienced a little bit of downtown Nashville, cruising a stretch called "Whiskey Row" which was... uh... loud. And crowded. And loud. And not so great. But hey! Folks seemed to be drinking and having fun... at 10am. But hey! All good. I did enjoy seeing the Johnny Cash Museum - the Man in Black is a favorite of mine. After that was over we headed to Parnassus

Los Angeles Launch Event

Village Well Culver City, CA July 11, 2023 LAUNCH DAY Was thrilled to finally launch my new novel, BOYS IN THE VALLEY! The reception I received from social media platforms was overwhelming and wonderful and completely unexpected. And the response from early readers was incredible - folks genuinely seemed to be excited by the book and after a full day of reading reviews and reposting amazing images from around the world, I was ready to get out there and officially kick off the BOYS Summer Tour. My first event was at VILLAGE WELL in Culver City, CA, just a hop and a skip from my house. I was fortunate enough to have a dear friend, BRIAN EVENSON, on hand to help with the event itself, asking great questions about the book and leading the discussion with the folks who came out. I also did a 10-minute reading, which I'll likely have memorized by the time the tour is over!
