EVENTS BY THE SEA

It's the weekend before Comic Con, my book has been out a total of three days, and my wife and I are heading south from our Los Angeles home to the San Diego area for multiple events.

First, however, we need to brave INSANE traffic that makes what would normally be a 2.5 hour drive into a bumper-bumping 6 hours! But hey, that's the job, right? And luckily we left SUPER early so even with the delay I was able to make the events in plenty of time.

We reach our hotel in Carlsbad and it's a beautiful day with a beautiful view. Sadly, we're now in a time crunch, so no time for lunch and no time to stare at the beach! So we dump our bags and hop back into the car in time to make it to La Jolla and the wonderful bookstore, WARWICKS, where they've kindly set aside a stack of my books for me to sign.

I would have loved to have hung out and chatted with the wonderful employees there, and want to give a quick shoutout to Mallory, the book buyer, for stocking my book, and Julie for coordinating. Hope to get back there at some point and do a proper event!

But again, no rest for the wicked because I now have less than an hour to get down to San Diego proper and the legendary MYSTERIOUS GALAXY. Thankfully, we get luckier with traffic on this stretch and make it in plenty of time. Was great to see my old friend Cody Goodfellow, who co-hosted the event with the bookstore, and so wonderful to meet Nick, who put together the event, and Rob, who was so supportive of my being there. And of course a big THANK YOU to all the employees at MG - can't wait to see you guys at Comic Con!

Overall the event was really fun. I'm still a fairly new name in fiction so I'm not drawing Joe Hill crowds, but it's always such a pleasure to meet readers, sign books, chat about fiction and horror, and take the occasional selfie. Thanks to everyone who came out!

After a fun night with some local friends of ours, we get back to the hotel late and crash. Tomorrow's another event!

The next morning is gloomy but still gorgeous. Stephanie and I make it easily down to Encinitas, CA - a beautiful, funky, seaside town with great bars and restaurants and, of course, bookstores. Specifically, the legendary ARTIFACT BOOKS, located right in the heart of downtown Encinitas and owned by my good friend, Greg Mollin, who is a true book lover and a great guy.

Artifact drew a nice crowd and it was so much fun to do a Q&A with Greg, read a bit from the book, and take a slew of questions from the audience. Sold a good number of books so definitely a successful event! Was also nice meeting Emmy-winning artist Josh Pruett, who worked on my kid's favorite show growing up, Phineas and Ferb, and has a new book out himself that just jumped onto the New York Times' Bestseller list.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to all the events! So far the tour is going great and I can't wait for future stops. Things are gonna start to get interesting...
